News :: General News : OnLive dated and detailed |
Cloud gaming may be a pipe dream for Australia, what with middling broadband penetration and nightmarish licensing laws, but despite the naysayers, it looks like the future is now. OnLive CEO Steve Perlman has detailed the service's launch state-side for June 17th, and detailed pricing, launch titles, and more.

News :: General News : Preview - Blur |
If you were one of those ‘judge-a-book-by-its-cover’ types, the name ‘Blur’ might communicate two things to you; a game dedicated to a ludicrous sense of speed, or a game that was refreshingly honest about how low-res its textures look. Interestingly, we have experienced some hands-on with the new Blur beta and can confirm that neither of those assumptions is correct.

News :: General News : PlayStation Network signs on major film studios |
When is a console not a console? When it's a member of the current generation and therefore apparently has to serve as the "entertainment hub" of your entire house, gosh. More shots have been fired in the War to Conquer Your Living Room, as Sony one-up the competition by announcing the signing of six major film studios for HD content on-demand.

News :: General News : Western FFXIII sales pass Japanese figures in less than two days |
I was chatting with a fellow gamer last week, when he declared that the JRPG was dead. "Japan's the only territory where they really sell," he declared. "Everywhere else is over it! We want Western RPGs with loads of customisation, or even better, shooters. The JRPG's day is done. You watch. Final Fantasy XIII will bomb, and that'll be the end of it."
Being the vindictive journo that I am, I wrote these epically foolish words down so I could quote them back publicly as I reveal that within 48 hours of launch, Square Enix had shifted over three million units of the latest and greatest in the world's best-selling RPG franchise.

News :: General News : Ubisoft DRM servers go down to attack |
So how about that new Ubisoft DRM, then? Pretty good is it? Stops pirates playing games they haven't paid for? Has no ill effects for end users of legitimately purchased products?
Insert hollow laughter here. Ubi's DRM service went down yesterday, leaving a number of Assassin's Creed II and Silent Hunter 5 players locked out of their own games. The cause? An attack on the servers.

News :: General News : Little King's Story dev abdicates, flees kingdom |
I hate waking up to bad news, and can't think of any other way to classify the revelation that Japanese developer Cinq have filed for bankruptcy.
The notoriously kooky team behind the cute but awesomely unique Little King's Story - the very reason I even contemplated buying a Wii - may not even last long enough to see Western releases of two upcoming titles.

Each week, we collate the most popular stories that we published over the past seven days, plus a lineup of the most downloaded files added in the same timeframe. That way, in case you missed something, you can catch up in one helpful little spot, every Monday morning.
Last week, everyone wanted to know just how they could get their hands on a shiny Radeon HD5970 just for filling in a simple survey. Our multiplayer review of Battlefield Bad Company 2 was also popular, as were the antics of everyone's favourite Attorney General. Our look at a total conversion of Modern Warfare - Galactic Warfare also proved to be popular. A submission in response to the R18+ public consultation from a OFLC veteran was also big news.

Veteran game designer and entrepreneur American McGee has been overwhelmed by the spike in interest his studio has received from uploading a single piece of concept art to Flickr. News :: General News : We are the world: Itagaki chides developers for their tunnel vision |
In launching the website for his new development house Valhalla Game Studios, controversial game designer Tomonobu Itagaki has posted a lengthy diatribe in which he slams the narrow-mindedness of contemporary game designers.
